UniCredit is a leading international financial institution with strong roots in 22 European countries and an international network present in approximately 50 markets, with 9,578 branches and more than 162,000 employees.

UniCredit benefits from a strong European identity having a strategic position in Austria, Germany and Italy and a market leader presence in Central and Eastern Europe.

Central and Eastern Europe
The Group has a long history in this region which accounts for nearly half of all its employees through a broad network of roughly 4,000 branches. It is thus well positioned to benefit from the process of economic convergence that is generating higher living standards and a better business environment in these countries, 10 of which are already EU members and many of them are expected to join the Eurozone in the next few years.

With a direct presence in 19 countries (Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Kazakhstan,  Ukraine), the Group's footprint in such a dynamic region is well diversified. It ranks among the top 10 players in 17 countries and among the top five in 10 countries.

UniCredit in Turkey
Turkey - the fastest-growing European Economy in 2010 - is a key market for UniCredit. In Turkey UniCredit is represented by Yapi Kredi Bankasi A.S. that currently represents the fifth-largest bank in terms of assets, with leading positions in credit cards, managed assets, non-cash loans, leasing and factoring.
Yapi Kredi is the result of the merger between Yapi Kredi Bankasi A.S. and Koçbank A.S. at the beginning of October 2006.  The bank embodies the strengths, experience and resources of two strong and long-established institutions in the Turkish financial sector. Yapi Kredi Bankasi A.S., established in 1944 as Turkey's first nationwide private bank, has played a significant role in the country's economic development as well as in the improvement of individuals' financial capabilities. Koçbank A.S. was founded in the 1980s by Koç Holding and is one of the top industrial conglomerates in Turkey.

UniCredit's commitment to the European Union membership of Turkey
Evidence of UniCredit involvement in the Country is not only given by the dimension of its investment but also by the Italian-Turkish Dialogue Forum of which the Group has been among the first confident founders. This represents undisputed proof of the Group's involvement in Turkey's European membership movement. The group is also certain that it can represent, through its investment and consolidated presence in the Country, an important example of integration.
