"The 150th anniversary of Italian-Turkish relations:
a common vision towards Europe"


The third Permanent Italy-Turkey Dialogue Forum, was held on 7-8 November 2006 at the Villa Miani in Rome.

The Forum - with the title "The 150th anniversary of Italian-Turkish relations: a common vision towards Europe" started with three closed-door sessions which saw the participation of around 100 Italian and Turkish company directors.

The session on political relations was presided over by Ambassador Renato Ruggiero, formerly the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs and then Advisor to the Italian Prime Minister on the Declaration on the Future of Europe, and by Zeynep Karahan-Uslu, Chairman of the Turkish-Italian Working Group and Turkish Parliamentary Group at the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.

The session on economic relations, with a special focus on the energy policies of the Mediterranean countries, saw contributions from Alessandro Ortis, President of the Italian Energy and Gas Regulator, and Amb. Mithat Balkan, Turkish National Coordinator for Energy Issues.

At the session on socio-cultural relations, Alessio Gorla, member of the Board of Directors of RAI Cinema, and Semih Idiz, journalist and correspondent for CNN-Turk, chaired a debate on mass media and democracy.

The plenary session, introduced by the CEO of UniCredit Alessandro Profumo, was inaugurated by the Italian and Turkish Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Massimo D'Alema and Abdullah Gul.

The Chairman of UniCredit Group, Dieter Rampl, opened the inaugural evening of the third annual presentation of the Forum, held at the Spazio Etoile in Rome where the delegates were welcomed in an atmosphere of exchange and openness, assisted by an exhibition of contemporary artworks selected from the collections of UniCredit Group and YapiKredi, and a jazz jam-session featuring bands from Italy and Turkey.
